HOW TO REVAMP YOUR MAKEUP DESK

Hey and welcome back!
Today I'm giving you a little DIY. A few months ago I decided to revamp my makeup desk. I've had my desk for about 4 years and even though I had a glass top on it, she was looking a little worn.

I had seen lots of people using contact paper to cover tables, cabinets, desks, etc. Literally everything!
So I decided to cover my desk with some marble contact paper.

You can buy these per metre in pretty much any craft shop or online at amazon or ebay. I got mine from a little local paint shop for around £2.99 per metre. You can get them cheaper online but I was too impatient for delivery.  As my desk is quite deep I got 3 metres. This was more than enough. Along with it I bought the kit to help apply it. A little craft blade to give a clean cut and something to smooth put air bubbles (very important but im not sure its name).

So first of all. Remove the legs of the desk. Its much easier if you remove the legs and wrap the paper around the edges. This will stop edges peeling and gives a better finish.
Next you will need to measure the surface and plan if you will need joins. If so where they will be. I had one join but kept it as far back in the desk as I could so it wasnt as noticable. Be aware of patterns matching when applying to. That was the hardest part. My desk is quite big so I had to get my fiance to help.

Peel of the back of the paper and get sticking! I would suggest doing small sections. Peel some back, stick and smooth out air bubbles. Then keep moving along repeating the steps. It will save you a lot of frustration trying to get air bubbles out at the end. Trust me.

Make sure to apply pressure when squeezing the air bubbles out. This will also help in the paper adhering to the surface.
The good thing about it is that if u make a mistake it peels off. Also if I get sick of it I can redo it.

Heres a little before and after of my desk.

My makeup desk is actually a computer desk from ikea as it was bigger you can buy it here.

This is so quick to do and so cheap. My desk looks brand new!

Have you used contact paper to revamp or recycle something??
