So lets talk brushes! This is just my personal opinion on what brushes I think are absolute staples in anyone's makeup bag. You don't exactly have to have the best makeup in the world but if you have decent brushes it makes your life a whole lot easier - that doesn't mean it has to be the most expensive brand. So these are the brushes that I think you need in your makeup bag...
Foundation brush - please, please, please whatever you take from this blog make this one of them. Use a foundation brush! Now clean fingers can be great blending tools but when it comes to applying your foundation you NEED a foundation brush in your life! I'm not a fan of the old school 'flat foundation brush', they leave streak marks and just move the product around your face. You want a buffing or stippling brush, these will blend foundation seamlessly into your skin giving you an amazing flawless finish. I cannot recommend the Urban Decay Optical Blurring Brush enough, I have two in my kit! It is just the most amazing brush I have ever used and it feels so good when applying. Its synthetic therefore it will not hold onto your liquid/cream products. I also use my foundation brush for buffing out my concealer, cream highlight and contour. This brush only comes in at £21 which I think is a bargain considering the prices of other brands.
Powder brush - For powder I'm not too fussed on the type just a large soft fluffy brush will do whether you spend £5 or £30; its only to set the makeup. Personally, I use the real techniques powder brush. It is so amazingly soft and only £10!
Angled brush - One brush for two things! Ideal for brows and gel liner. This one is personal preference, some prefer a tiny thin brush others prefer a thicker brush. I have both real techniques and mac 208.
Fluffy blending brush (crease brush) - Staples for any eye makeup look! You're looking for domed fluffy headed brushes, I have several different brands all work great. I love love love the mac 217 & 224 they are my all time favourites! I also have Morphe brushes, real techniques, urban decay and a few unbranded eBay ones that are just as good!
Smudge or pencil brush - If you want that Smokey under eye then a smudge or a pencil brush are exactly what you need. Again you don't have to spend a lot, as long as the bristles are not hard so they don't jag your eyes as its such a sensitive area. I use the Mac 219 & 214
Flat eyeshadow brush - it doesn't really matter what brand this brush is as long as its flat and synthetic, its only used for packing colour onto the lid. I have a few different brands and it doesn't make the slightest different to what one I use.
Small powder brush - I like to use this brush for contouring. This one is optional but if you like to powder contour you will need a smaller fluffy brush to get to more intricate areas of the face. For this I like the mac 109, Urban Decays double ended angled flushed brush or Morphe brushes (I cant remember the number).
Blusher brush - I'm really not the biggest fan of blusher I don't think the brush really makes a difference. I just use it to add a tiny bit of colour to the apples of the cheeks so any brush will do for this, don't spend a lot. I use the brush I got from when I started my makeup course its small, soft and does the job.
Concealer brush - my concealers come with a brush applicator on them but if yours doesn't then just use a flat synthetic brush same kind you would use for your eyeshadow.
A little extra brush I love (have about 4 of) is the brush that comes with the Urban Decay Naked Palettes. Its double ended; one flat end side and the other a fluffier brush. I use the fluffier side for blending out concealer on smaller areas of the face, its amazing!!
So that's my must have brushes for doing a full face of makeup. You don't have to run out and buy the most expensive brand and remember just because a brush says its for 'eyes' doesn't mean you absolutely have to use it on eyes. Think outside the box and use it for whatever you want to make your life easier. The pictures are some of the brushes I have but just to give you a rough idea of what they look like.
