False eyelashes!

So I couldn't name my blog 'Lipstick and Lashes' without talking about my favourite part of makeup... Lashes!!
I wear false eyelashes every time I wear makeup! I feel like they totally finish off any makeup look whether you've went with a dramatic look or more subtle look. Something I hear all the time when doing makeup is, "I can never put eyelashes on" and "they always ping off!"

So I'm going to save your life, bring it back to basics and share some of my fool proof tips on applying false eyelashes, what styles suit your eyes along with my favourite lashes!!

Please note this is my take on what type of lashes suit a specific eye shape to make them look a specific way i.e. smaller, larger etc. Personally when it comes to makeup in general I think whatever your comfortable with you should go for it!

So first of all what type of lash should you buy? Full on drama? Wispy? Natural? Long? Flared?

If you have smaller eyes/hooded eyes you want a lash that slightly flares at the edges giving you that length and the illusion of a wider eye. This type of lash is also great for rounder eyes that want that 'almond shape'.

Larger eyes are lucky and can get away with most styles. I like ones that are the same length all the way round or slightly longer in the middle its up to you, go wild!

If you have never worn eyelashes before I would go for a natural or wispy type just until you get used to them. It also helps if the lash has an invisible band like these...

Notice you cant really see the band. This makes the lash more flexible therefore less likely to ping off at the edge. If your lash has a thick band they can be harder to mould onto the shape of your eye like these...

But that doesn't mean to say they wont go on. What I like to do is hold them at each side and 'break the spine' by wiggling them into a 'U' shape like this...

If they are really straight you can wrap them around an eyeliner or lip liner.

Next place them on your eye to measure them and trim off the edges - sticking them to the side of your eye is not a good look.

Now the glue! This is where most people go wrong. Apply the glue to the lash band (make sure you get the edges) and wait about 15/20 seconds before applying. I like to apply my glue, do my mascara, then put them on, you want the glue to be tacky but not dry. So as soon as you place the lash onto your eye it sticks  and doesn't slide about.

Now the tricky part of actually attaching them to your eyes! If you have read my 'how to get the perfect eyeliner' post, I use the same technique of holding the mirror close to your face in front of your nose. Then tilt it back so you can see your eyes. From here you eyes should be half closed over so you can see your whole eyelid. Now I like to hold the lash in the centre then line this up with the centre of your eye. Once in place just fix the corners and bam we have lashes!!

Once the glue is dry I to go back in with my mascara and just slightly lift and blend my natural lashes into my false ones. If you have never worn them before you will be able to see them but after about 10 minutes this goes away. I'm so used to it I don't even notice anymore. You can also pinch them together with your natural lashes to blend them. When pulling them off always start from the inside and pull out.

A few of my favourite brands are Red cherry
Ardell, Eldora and good old faithful Eyelure.
My favourite glue would be without a doubt the Duo adhesive

I hope this was helpful! It will take a bit of practice but once you get it, it will become second nature to you! If you have any questions please feel free to message me!
