The First Trimester

Hi there! So I've decided to blog my pregnancy this time around to possibly help any first time mamas out there that are thinking "What the hell am I doing? Do I need to buy that? and what is a nappy bin? whats wrong with my normal bin?" you know the usual things! I intended to do this with my first pregnancy so I had something to look back on, almost like a journal, but I underestimated how quickly pregnancy goes by.

So if you don't already know me, this is my second pregnancy. We have a little girl, Georgia, who is 3 and a half. I've started writing this blog at 8 weeks pregnant. I will do updates but not every week. By the time this goes live I will be around 12 weeks and will have obviously announced it.

We found out we were having our second little baba on Chritsmas eve. Cute right? Not as cute as all that pink gin I had gotten the following day for Christmas but hey, jokes!! I was 5 weeks and 4 days to be exact. Even though I wasn't technically that 'late'. There's just that feeling you get when you just know, am I right mamas? That and the fact my boobs had gotten noticeably bigger and very very sore.

8 weeks
Now if your new to pregnancy, I don't want to scare you but the first trimester is the worst. I'm sorry there is no sugar coating it. It sucks. My nausea hit me early this time at exactly 6 weeks and 4 days, on new years eve. Which for a makeup artist is not ideal on my busiest day of the year. But I did what everyone says I ate little and often, I drank plenty of water etc. But then the dreaded sickness bug got me. I felt horrific. I wanted to cry, I did cry. But once this monster passed and I felt human and I set out to get supplies to get me through this trimester.

First thing I've bought are some pressure bands (wrist bands used for travel sickness) from a local chemist and the difference is amazing. Now I don't know if it's all in my mind or the fact that my sickness bug has gone and I can finally look at food, but I can get through the day, and that my friends is good enough for me so I ain't taking the bands off! I cant eat anything hot so living on cold toast, rolls and cold meat and tuna pasta. Not all at once haha! So if your struggling then I highly recommend.

Try and eat every hour, even if its small like a cracker just do it. This sounds a lot harder than it is. The last thing on my mind is food, but grazing throughout the day on small things rather than eating 3 large meals does help keep that sickness/nausea at bay.

10 weeks
We are almost at the highly anticipated 12 week scan! January is the longest month as it is but I feel like its going even slower! I'm avoiding people as I cannot contain this secret lol. My sickness has started to ease a little. Thank goodness. I still feel a little nausea at different times of the day, mostly at night to be honest, but I have found the best ways to help me manage it are;
  • Drinking water. It helps everything. Dehydration can lead to feeling more sick so make sure you always have a little bottle of water with you and just sip it throughout the day. My water has to be ice cold though as I'm constantly warm right now. This is due to the increased amount of blood supply in pregnant women, so it causes them to feel warmer than most people. For the body to handle the extra blood, the blood vessels dilate slightly, bringing blood closer to the surface of the skin and causing the woman to feel warmer. Fun fact for ya!
  • Snacking. I feel like all I have done for a month is eat. I am eating every hour to keep the nausea away. but it definitely does the trick. Just something small. I'm not even trying to eat healthy just now just anything that doesn't make me feel sick at the thought of it. I'll eat healthy in the second trimester lol.
  • Fresh air. Sometimes the last thing you want to do is go outside when your feeling this way but the walks to Georgia's nursery really help. Even just making sure I'm sitting next to an opened window helps. If I start to get too warm the nausea hits.
  • Icepoles! Due to constantly being warm I have been eating icepoles and ice lollies all day. Which in the middle of January when its been snowing does get me some weird looks when buying them.
  • Naps, if you want to sleep then you sleep mama! little power naps will be your best friend. Embrace them when you can. Its difficult when you already have a child but that doesn't stop me power napping at my mums if I can.

but in all honestly, do what feels good for you. Listen to your body and do what you need to do, your growing a human.

13 weeks
So we finally had our scan after what felt like an eternity. We thought we were 12 weeks when in fact we were 13. So that was a nice surprise. We told Georgia after we got the scan and she is so so excited to be a big sister. Although she has told us we are having a girl called Georgia 2, not going to happen lol. My sickness has subsided a lot. It just peaks when I'm really hungry.

So here's to the second trimester. When the energy comes back, you actually look pregnant and not like your just carrying a little extra Christmas weight.
I intend to blog and possibly vlog as much as I can. I feel like going into my pregnancy the second time around I feel a little bit wiser, I know not to buy half the stuff people tell you to buy and I hope to share all this lovely goodness with any of you first time mummies out there. I am not an expert by any means, but I feel like second time around I'm not quite as clueless as I was the first. I made a lot of mistakes too but that's for another blog!

Hope you enjoyed!

Are there any other remedies you had for morning sickness?
