So following my foundation routine tutorial I'm going to give you some tips on why your foundation may not be lasting all day. My makeup doesn't budge all day and one thing my clients will always tell me when I do their makeup is that it lasted all night.
So first things first primer. I cannot stress this enough. A primer is key in giving you that long lasting foundation. But not just any old primer will do. You have to use one that's going to work with your skin type, not against it. If you have drier skin go for a hydrating primer. One with any sort of oils etc. My ride or die is Urban Decays Optical Illusion primer which I used in my foundation routine tutorial. If your skins oily look for primers that are oil absorbing and help shine control. Enlarged pores? You need something that's going to smooth over and blur those pores. Your skin will literally start to soak up the foundation that goes on your face. Putting that primer on will not only even out the skins surface but will almost act like a barrier.
Are you wearing the right foundation for your skin? This one seems like a no brainer but if your very dry, that full coverage matte foundation isn't going to work for you. And if your oily? Sorry that luminous dewy foundation is going to slide right off your face come 12pm. The right primer however could maybe help this depending on how severe the problem is.
Setting with a powder. It doesn't matter if your dry this is a must. Even if you only lightly set under the eyes and on your smile lines. Your putting a liquid or cream on your face which will remain wet. Set that with a powder and the surface of your makeup will dry, making it less likely to slide off. I'm not really fussy when it comes to powder I've tried everything from powder foundations, translucent to plain old setting powder. Unless you want more coverage, they essentially all do the same thing.
Setting spray! Now call me biased but the best setting spray hands down is Urban Decays All nighter. I've tried many but this is always the one that works the best. No thick spray and no sticky or tacky feeling. It's gentle on the skin and does exactly what it says on the bottle. They contain a temperature controlling system that keeps your face from over heating and your makeup from melting off your face.
Don't touch your face! I know this one seems odd. But trust me you would be surprised at how many times in a day you subconsciously touch you face, lean on your hands or scratch your face. If you have an itch, we tap. Never scratch.
Less is more. The secret to your makeup lasting all night is lighter multiple layers. Just because you want it to last all night doesn't mean you should double up on how much foundation you use.
So those are my top tips for keeping makeup on your face all day. Hope this has helped anyone who struggled with this problem. There is nothing more annoying!! Let me know if there are any other makeup problems you struggle with.
